Wooden items are reserved for Robert, the ceramics is for Ania, from this cooperation the wooden products encrusted with ceramic tiles arising. As long as we have enough old wood, we make them from wood that is 70 years old (that’s how old our barn is, which we have to partial dismantle).
Searching the boards’ stack for correct board to special item takes a lot of time, next, Robert is cutting out the desire shape and polish.
The tiles for encrusting the item are cut out from bigger tiles at first, then they are polished at edges not to hurt Robert, and it is also done by him. Prepared in that way, Ania enamels them – the enamel is being put on the whole tile and next the picture is scratched, or they are painted, the “big finish”, after finishing the details is to put them in to the ceramic furnace for burning.
In prepared boards Robert is chiseling holes for fitting the tiles.
If the board is painted it has to be polished, that is done after making the holes. Painting wood belongs to Ania.
Next Robert is sticking in the tiles using the elastic glue (not to break them).
The next stage of work is when the item is a hat-stand or a box or closet – is to hammer in or to screw in the hooks and handles, it is done only after the glue is dried up completely (it takes some time), and another items are made to look old in our secret ways. At the end they are impregnated with eatable oil (the item to be used with food), floor oil or waterproof impregnate. So, as you can see, it’s a time-consuming tuff work,
no good for your back, but giving lots of satisfaction! |
